In light of my own latest lj entry?

Oh I *have* firmly held opinions. I was just sort of openmouthed at the "belief is the end of intelligence" in light of all the fundieness coming to the forefront these days. I have been known to clutch rather desperately and dramatically to my bosom "my version" of a theory, or recollected facts. And when I loosened the panic grip a little, was able to see from another perspective or three, and understand that practically nothing is set in stone. It's sort of odd to live in freefall, and as I said, I do have some firmly held opinions.

Tread lightly. Do good. Don't hurt. Feed. I think those will support just about anybody and not harm either the planet or my fellow beings. Other than that, though? Everything's negotiable. It's not comfortable, but it's the only way I've developed that keeps me sane and moving forward.

But those are all subjective in interpretation and open to misuse and downright abuse. There are people who think it's good to set people on fire for the good of their souls. Who decides?

I can't be too open in where I stand, because I tend to be one of those annoying "go out and do" types. I get impatient with the high-minded talk and I want to go out and do something.

And if I'm doing something from ethical or moral or emotional boggy ground? I'd be in deep doodoo.

Um. I see where the concrete can be needful. I think I have a firm moral center, although it's quite left of where a lot of people's moral center is. So I don't worry so much about my motives harming others. Although plenty of people feel exactly the same way about their own motives, and I worry about them.

So you're saying we all need a firmly spelled out creed, so everybody else knows where we stand? So our kinks and tics are labeled and thus avoidable by those they'd harm?

Do I make you nuts by being amorphous and wafty? I probably do and I'm very sorry. I expect you to know what ground my feet are on, though, and not worry about motive and method where I'm concerned.
