Gchick's comments on meal prep inspired these thoughts: Even when H and I are metaphorical miles apart emotionally (as we seem to be just now), one area where our bond and communication remains intact is in the kitchen. Of long habit, since he is by far the better cook, I'm his sous-chef, totally willing to chop and slice and wash and drain the ingredients and the dishes in return for him working his magic with the raw materials. We go about the steps of preparing food, moving near-telepathically. We've reduced our pans, bowls, knives, dishes, utensils inventory to the minimum needed to manage, but therefore a bowl or a knife may need to be washed three times for reuse during meal prep. In the dance of making food, we--for a time, at least--regain footing in a relationship being renegotiated and redefined in other areas.
