Doin' the Friday five on Saturday. Day late, my usual speed.
1. How many times have you truly been in love?
Once, for real. Twice, practice runs. Five-ce, if you count "falling in love" with offspring.
2. What was/is so great about the person you love(d) the most?
He made me see me through his eyes, and made me see what he loves in me. That he would do that for me... Plus, hella handsome, funny, intelligent, and had never a doubt I could match him. His expectations for and of me made me love him for that, beyond loving him for himself, which is quite fullsome enough.
3. What qualities should a significant other have?
Intelligence, humour and compassion, in no particular order and in equal parts, according to the situation.
4. Have you ever broken someone's heart?
Yes. He wouldn't listen.
5. If there was one thing you could teach people about love, what would it be?
Love yourself first. You can't know who you love, really love, until you know who you are, and agree that you are worthy of love. Also? Everyone changes. H and I are not the same people who got married decades ago. We've fallen in, out of, in, out of, and back in love many times. Fairly frequently it's skated pretty close to indifference, which is worse than hate. But one day I'm resenting the very air he breathes (through no fault of his, just his mere space-inhabiting in my life), the very next day he takes my breath away turning to smile at me. It's a great ride, if you can stick out the grey and sticky spots.
