So yesterday I made sure Mom was up, reminded her an hour and a half before we needed to leave what time we were leaving. I printed and packed up all the stuff I needed for my meeting, and went down 20 minutes early to see if she needed any help. She was sitting exactly where I'd left her, still in the same dirty clothes.
"I thought you meant tomorrow." Made sure she used the toilet, changed her blouse, discovered that one was dirty too, found a clean one and buttoned it on her. Had her comb her hair while I fetched her coat, her checkbook(!) and a little cash and got her outside into the car only ten minutes late. Picked up the mail and threw it into my sack o' stuff to sort later. Dr's appointment went well, got her back in the car, stopped at McDonalds for fries, chocolate shake, a quarter pounder for her and a plain hamburger for the dog. Decanted her at home, carried in the food, and made sure she saw me put the checkbook back in her purse.
I had a little time so I changed into less-warm clothing before I ran to my meeting. Great meeting, everybody brought something to work on, and we had some good workshopping time. Home to finish up the two heels of the 12 grain bread in a swiss and tomato-basil-cheddar sandwich, grilled in butter with rosemary and basil. An evening of catching up online, tv, and reading, and when I went down to say goodnight, she hugged me enthusiastically.
"You are the best daughter anyone could ever ask for. You just don't know how MUCH I appreciate all you do for me."
"Thanks. I love you, too. Just don't wake me up at four in the morning to tell me, okay?"
And we laughed.
