Had a marvelous time with L yesterday. It was wonderful to be able to walk and look at things for several hours. We went to the reorg'ed metaphysical shop downtown, after a several block walk to a jewelry store that's been here longer than I have been alive, and is finally closing its doors. An institution. L found a dainty gold neckchain for 70% off, and I found some silverplate goblets that I'm thinking of buying. I have a silver chalice that I love for myself, but there was a tall, slender one that tempted me, plus a matching pair that might work as a wedding gift. Together the pair was less than $15, so I must ponder. I think I'll go back this week to the Spirits shop, as she had a pocket sized deck I'm interested in.
After downtown, we were off to the coliseum. We had no idea that there was an airshow at the nearby local airport today, plus a couple of other exhibits/gatherings, plus a local university football game, as well as the gem show, all in the same three-block area. We stopped at the Goodwill store first while we allowed some of the parking stuff to sort itself out. She found an off-white silk blouse embroidered all over with white thread, and at the scalloped sleve and hemline edges with gold thread. Gorgeous! $3.50. No books worth the taking, alas. But she found a set of tiny flat wooden bowls, about the size of coasters, all four for a dollar, I found a potpourri burner, really pretty, hardly used, top and bottom pieces 50 cents each, a very small white rimmed Buffalo china bowl, and two plain white porcelain china flat saucers, which will work nicely as pillar candle holders or offering dishes--or as coasters. They were 25 cents each. Biiig spenders, that's us.
L took a lot of time at the gem and minerals show. There were some very pretty things, set and unset gem quality precious and semi precious stones, vases and figures carved from solid stone, raw stones and pieces of various ores in matrix. She had a list of stones representing various elements she was attempting to find, plus another list of rocks she already has that she was attempting to identify. She checked off most of her first list, and several on her second. I found lots of pretty stuff, but my collector's gene has apparently been switched off. I have several baskets full of polished rocks, a lifetime of collecting. I still like to look and touch, though, and often identify or learn more at shows and shops, so it's still fun even though I'm not acquiring. I was purchase-free, until the third booth from the exit, I saw sterling neckchains. Having broken three of my fine 24 inch ones (which are in a tiny Altoids tin in my purse for that opportunity to drop them off at the only jeweler's I know that might possibly repair them), I needed a new one, which I found, $5. Yippee!
Then we headed out to Whole Foods so L could pick up some groceries. P was there with her best dog buddy, who was ecstatic to see me. The Humane Society was having a fund-raising dog wash, and P was displaying and taking orders for the pet portraits she does. It was good to see her. There were some cute dogs there, but none for adoption, and not a cat to be seen anywhere. I thought I saw one in someone's arms, but it turned out to be a little bat-eared dog, instead. I found some different scents of the olive oil based soaps, again me=big spender. I may not be well fed, but I'll be clean. And I'll smell great!
And so, home. H had slept most of the day, since he hadn't gotten home after work Friday until 4AM Saturday. We had brats (no kraut on mine, thanks) and watched a couple of S1 eps of Farscape, and If Earth Had No Moon on Discovery, narrated by Patrick Stewart. H's arthritis is giving him hell this week, it's difficult for him to walk, and he tires easily, so he was ready for bed again. He's meeting his mom and brother to remember his dad's death four years ago, at the place where we scattered Dad's ashes. I may drive him, if he asks me.
If not, I've got LC's first two revised chapters to critique, P's and B's chapters, as well. So, I'll have an afternoon of reading/editing to do.
The insides of my knees are sore, but not my other joints, and this is muscle pain, so, use after disuse and a good sort of achy. I'm so pleased at this, because it's been months that I haven't been able to walk for hours at a time. I did have to find somewhere to sit for a minute or two yesterday while L stood in one place and took notes. I was fine walking, but I can't, and never could, stand for long periods at a stretch. But exercise, yay!
