It's been a long time since I had tv worth squeeing and meta discussion, so I'm rusty and out of practice. And I suck at the meta anyway, although I love reading others' opinions.
What I'm good at, though, is squee, so herewith:
The Ackles really sold me on Dean's futility and panic, tied to the chair and unable to save Sam. It's his mission in life, it is his life, to save Sammy, and he was failing, between one breath and the next. And then, in the moment when Sam cut him free and started to collapse and Dean *surged* to his feet to catch him--even though his baby brother is now a loomy, rangy, being who towers over him, Dean is still the big, protective brother.
These Winchester men are so tangled together I don't know if either would survive the ripping apart it would take to separate them. Neither is whole now, separated they'd be even farther from it.
