It's verra odd, we happen to be at one of those downswings on the romance pendulum. It's nothing new. Our marriage has been sort of like two parallel paths that curve right and left of center. Sometimes the paths curve toward each other. Those are the honeymoon periods, when I look at him and he at me, "Oh! I remember you!" and we fall in love all over again, light up when the other enters a room, the sexual tension hums audibly, the ache of being apart for a day is sweetened by the eventual reunion. And sometimes the paths curve away from center, and we remain in sight of each other, but there is little to no real contact.

We're in an away-from curve, at the moment. And as this is, or should be, big!important!number! anniversary, I find that inconvenient. I feel custom bound to celebrate. And as I'm the usual planner and organiser, making a celebration happen would be my job.

And I just--didn't care. I couldn't even be arsed to buy a card. We'll do dinner, maybe a drive. And that will be it. At some point, the paths will curve in again.

Right?
