Friday Five on Friends...
1. Do you remember your first best friend? Who was it?
Yes, Gail. We were neighbors, our parents went to the same church, we were less than two years apart in age, and we were both adopted.
2. Are you still in touch with this person?
Yes. Although by email and letter, rather than f2f. She has relatives here still, so she does visit occasionally, but usually doesn't have time to meet. We have little in common in our present lives, but there's still a very deep and strong connection. Maybe it touches on being family for each other in a weird way our adoptives (and her birth family. she searched and found) aren't. She always got me, and still does, in ways nobody else ever did. Plus there's that connection with earliest memory (I was 3, she was not-quite-2 when I first remember her) and everything since. The closest thing to a sister, but with very different upbringing and family values.
3. Do you have a current close friend?
Oddly, I have several, but they appear to be categorised: the writers, the movie junkies, the fandom.
4. How did you become friends with this person?
Through our shared interests.
5. Is there a friend from your past that you wish you were still in contact with? Why?
Judy. We were friends in jr. high, a very formative age, and she's imprinted deep in all my memories of the time I was dealing with puberty, early adolescence, and the beginnings of adult sensibilities. Plus, she always had an idiosyncratic take on life, and I miss her commentary. We had a bit of a falling out early in my marriage, and just never kept in touch afterward.
