We had a visit from StE, DIL and the boy yesterday--the older boy was with his other grandmother, and I missed him. StE ostensibly came to use the computer and the broadband to file their taxes, but found out filing by phone was probably better. Still, nice visit. H took A to the park to play. A loves H to distraction. He did his best the whole rest of the visit to keep H all to himself. We took them out for Chinese, and H told A to come and tell the rest of us to get a move on. A said, "Oh, they don't want to come." We didn't know whether to stand there with our mouths open in astonishment or to giggle.
H had been scheduled to work yesterday, so when StE called on Friday and asked if we were doing anything, I said no. He said that he'd be coming alone, unless DIL could find a babysitter--if she could then she'd come with him. Meanwhile, a co-worker asked H to switch weekends with him, so since the weekend was supposed to be so warm and the weather so nice, he thought it would be fun to drive down to Atlantic Beach on Saturday. I heard the disappointment in his voice when I told him we were having visitors, but he suggested we go on Sunday instead. So that was the plan.
H got up at the crack of dawn and did four loads of laundry, and got me up at 8:30 to get ready to go. As I was dressing, it gradually dawned on me that spending eight hours in the car for a glimpse of the ocean isn't a trade I'm willing to make today, and I begged off. He wasn't too disappointed, and is now napping the nap of the early-rising launderer.
The next-door neighbor has spent the weekend trimming the trees in his yard, something we should do, as well. But the chainsaw has been running all morning, and it isn't helping the pounding headache I realized just a little while ago I have. So now I need to take drugs and drink more coffee, and possibly take a nap myself. It just seems a waste of a gorgeous day in the middle of winter. I've no doubt there are ice storms and weeks of cold ahead of us, and we should be outdoors reveling in warm sunshine.
Eh, maybe later.

Which Atlantic Beach do you go to?

H got a lot done today. He cut up downed limbs from the ice and wind the last couple of weeks and put them out for curbside pickup. He cleaned out the bed of the old truck--with the camper shell, it had been serving as a combo tool shed and storage locker. He's donated it to a friend for the cost of the towing, so it'll be leaving the yard. He found alternate places to store all the stuff he cleared out, and then he discovered and fixed an electrical problem in the new truck.
I got some sewing done that had been hanging fire for a while. I vacuumed the floors and cleaned the bathroom yesterday, so today I changed the bed and put away most of the clean laundry. We watched dvds and had grilled salmon steaks with rice for dinner. So it was a nice and productive day, even if we didn't make it to the beach. I just quailed at the thought of all those hours in the car today.

I think I could pick up branches in my yard every day for a month and still have plenty left. There are also a couple of limbs big enough that I need to get out the chain saw. I used to love yard work, but over the last two years, when I couldn't do it, I seem to have gotten out of the habit.
