Not that I'm exactly hopeful now, but the bitter rage, hopelessness and despair I felt after the last election turned, over time, to a gritty determination not to accept marginalization, to work however possible to advance my social and political beliefs, and to reclaim those that have been trashed and gutted by the present administration. I never thought I'd feel purposeful again, but I did. I never thought I'd have hope for the country again, but I did.
And after a period of mourning for the election's outcome, and the numbness at the result that's already beginning to wear away, I intend to do whatever I can, at whatever level, to take back my country. Whatever freedoms, whatever ecological, global political or domestic social gains or losses we suffer, it's still my country, my planet, and I won't admit their possession of it, let alone their right to rule, as long as I draw breath.
I'm growing a Resistance mentality, and I think maybe we should all begin to think that way. This is a war. And as soon as I catch my breath and get my bearings, I'm going to fight in whatever way I can be of use.
