I finally had a chunk of time to watch the RoS dvds, and went straight to the interviews. Most of the cast wear their intervening years well. Ray Winstone hasn't seemed to change a bit. I must say it's very odd to see him sitting at apparent ease in his (or someone's) garden, chatting amiably about making the series. Every role I've seen him in, before and since, there's been rage coming off him in waves, even when he wasn't angry. The energy, the combustion was there under the surface, ready to erupt at any minute. Sort of like Dennis Franz vs. Sipowitz. They all seem to have very happy memories of the span of time it took to film the series, have said they've remained in touch, unlike most other jobs since. It's very easy to hear the Cambridge Chorister in Clive's own speaking voice. And Judi still has a dancer's posture.
I guess I'll get around to actually watching the episodes. But it's clear from the snippets they used in the interviews and the "making of" segments that every line of dialog and every inflection is deeply engraved on my brain already. It seems almost superfluous to watch them. But it's nice to know I can, that the tapes I haven't watched in nearly 10 years because of their fragile disintegrating state aren't the only means to do so.
And Michael's Robin still reminds me tremendously of Orlando's Legolas. Dark, feral, lean and graceful boys, aside from the obvious differences in character.
